On Stage Youth Theatre, St Ives has been running since 2002 providing classes in singing, dance and drama at our St.Ives and Histon venues. In 2013 we launched our Dance Academy and have not looked back since!
The regular annual summer, winter shows and take part in local events and festivals, ensuring our pupils not only learn the key aspects of dance but get a chance to show off their hard work to friends and family!
Adult Classes in ballet and Jazz are Open to everyone and all abilities. It’s a great way to meet new people and awaken your love for dance.
Build on the strengths of our students and encourage improvement and confidence. Lessons are started with a vocal warm up, then we work on a wide range of repertoire including pieces from theatre and commercial sources. There is a strong focus on performance and each lesson is tailored to the appropriate age and ability of the group. We cover choral singing, harmony skills, microphone technique as well as solo and small group work. Plus having a lot of fun in the process!
The students take part in a warm up, technique exercises and then learn a routine during the term often working towards a show. We cover various styles from modern to hip hop to contemporary. We strive to develop our students posture, fitness, technique and improving confidence and passion for the performing arts world.
Drama lessons work on the principles of Theory , Performance work and technique. All lessons combine a mix of warm up games , focus work (depending on show requirements) and Theory/Technique work. Most times this is all woven into each lesson to combine a good balance of fun and learning. Some examples of tech/theory work would include : improvisation, mime, physical action, accent work and characterisation Drama is a great confidence builder and we work hard to bring each student along and build strong foundations for a more confident performance.
