Busy town centre pub, one of a number of historic listed pubs in the town, whose most famous inhabitant was Oliver Cromwell.

Despite the date 1502 over the door, most of the building is 18th century. The room layout and character was happily preserved in a sensitive renovation in the 1990s.

A changing range of at least three guest beers, an expanded range of ciders and a good range of whiskies keep the customers happy; card nights and live music are also featured. Hunts CAMRA Most Improved Urban Pub of the Year 2014.
