The Centre Theatre Players came into being in 1974 when the St. Ivo Leisure Centre was opened. The Management of The Centre wanted an outlet to provide the local area with theatre workshop facilities – and hence “The Players” were born.
Realising the popularity and success of this venture, it wasn’t long before full scale productions were being staged in The Burgess Hall and the membership of the group continued to rise. We have no subscriptions, no committees, no Prima Donna’s, no huge egos, no politics (yes I know it’s hard to believe) but these are just a few of the many factors that make The Players so different and unique. We perform two or three major shows each year, including our very popular annual Pantomime, plus various charity Cabaret evenings.
We are always on the look out for new talent, particularly male singers and actors, as well as those interested in the many other technical and back stage duties.
