St Ives is a pretty, historic market town on the Great River Ouse in Cambridgeshire (not Cornwall!!). Although the town was formerly known as Slepe, we do anything but!
The rowing club, founded by a GP, Dr. Grove, around 1865, has a proud history of competitive rowing, producing some outstanding athletes on the national and international scene. This, however, should not put anyone off joining the club. We also have novice (beginners) oarsmen and women, and a thriving group of junior and social members.
The club now occupies its second location in St Ives in a building formerly used as a grain store purchased from Mervyn Cootes, a businessman, & overlooks the picturesque Hemingford water meadow. The club is run by the trustees and a group of volunteers from the membership & aims to promote rowing in St Ives and the surrounding area.
