The competition for the St Ives poet Laureate for 2019 concluded last week following a marvellous evening in the Corn exchange.

Each of the top scoring poems had been assessed by a group of judges and were recited to a room packed with an appreciative audience.

The winner was Patrick Macdonald, from Godmanchester (right receiving his prize from Chris Morgan of St Ives Electric Riverboat Company) with his poem title ‘Although You’re Gone’. Patrick immediately asked the organiser to donate the prize of £100 to The MS Society. The Runner up, who won a poetry book prize was Steve Buttercase of St Ives with his poem ‘Anniversary of Diagnosis’ and in third place was Penny Leigh Brown from Fenstanton with ‘Twitter Bots’. The winner in the Junior Section was Isaak Band from St Ives for his poem entitled ‘School Jungle’.

All the entries of the competition will be on display in the St Ives library from 1st March.
